Life Table
Life Table
40" x 20" x 7"
Wood, Linen, Ceramics, Various Miscellaneous Objects
A low table of my life influences, a summary of me presented in ceramic saucers and wooden trays. I welcome people to sit (four at a time please) and view me.
(Top Left) Scents I often wear: Patchouli (UK brand), Sugar Lychee (Japan Brand), Dossier Gaiac (US Brand).
(Bottom Left) Scents I often eat: Soy sauce, Ginger, Ketchup
(Top Right) Messages from mother
Small printouts of messages that summarize the three topics between my mother and me. Translated so both you and I can understand them. When I realize how quickly it can be summarized, I ponder Freud's diagnosis: all women become like their mothers; that is their tragedy. Perhaps, that is not so bad.
(Bottom Right) Scents I often drink: Rose Black Tea (from London), Matcha (from Japan), Chrysanthemum (from Boston Chinatown)
(Middle) Coffee beans, a palette cleanser for the nose and the heart.

Wood, Cotton, Acrylic
A transparent cotton sheet sandwiched between a found wood object; the white lines continue and close the shape of the interrupted wood lines. An interactive object that allows the image shown through the cloth to change based on what’s behind it.

Oil, Walnut Wood
Super Team! Power Rangers! Powerpuff Girls! Balala the Fairies! Sailor Moon! Super Sentai! Each member (usually ranging from three to five) is color-coded and paired with a corresponding personality. This structure originates from the Super Sentai live-action series and has embedded itself into pop culture. As someone distanced from Chinese pop culture due to political, geographical, and self-imposed limitations, I find this to be a dilemma. These brushed wooden panels of my mother, my brother, and me teeters anxiously between the abdundant Japanese influences and the underlying Chinese and American experiences that shape my tastes and creative work.
